Thasmeen announces candidacy for DRP Leadership

Ahmed Thasmeen Ali, Deputy Leader of DRP has announced his candidacy for the soon-to-be vacant post of DRP Leader, in the party’s congress to be held in late February 2010. Thasmeen had also expressed his appreciation for the current leader and former President Maumoon, for encouraging him to run, for endorsing him and for appealing from party members to vote for him. He also said that his candidacy was motivated by the kind words by Maumoon and he believes that those words would be confirmed by the membership of the party, through the result of the elections to appoint party leader.

Tasmeen also admitted that the shoe which he has to fill-in is not an easy one, because of the tact, experience and knowledge of his current boss, who he said is a national and international leader.

He also said that in the past he has worked for the party with sincerity and under Maumoon’s instructions and he would continue to do so as the leader of the party in the future as well. He also said that no matter who leads DRP, DRP is Maumoon and he would continue to be its spirit.

Speaking further, he said DRP’s most prestigious position should belong to Maumoon. He also said that during the next congress, Maumoon would be awarded the title “Founder of DRP”.

In conclusion he also said that he understands leading an opposition party would not be easy, but he will live up to the challenges of the position.
