As the preparations for the next congress of the DRP is gearing-up, reports from within the party indicates that the founding document of the party would be revised. According to the reports one of the main revisions would be to hold a party primary to decide its presidential candidates. Currently party’s leader would by default be the presidential candidate.
Party had already opened the opportunity for its members to propose amendments to the document. Reports also indicate that other amendments are also being floated as well, such as electing a party’s president and a vice-president, instead of party’s leader and deputy leaders.
Party’s current leader, Maumoon had announced his decision to quit politics on Monday and had endorsed Thasmeen as the next leader of the party.
In a press conference held by Thasmeen, he has announced his decision to run for the post of the Party’s leadership.
